Office of Undergraduate Admissions—In response to this year’s decline in alumni donations, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions has announced it will now mail acceptance letters to unqualified prospective students who send the University large amounts of money. In addition, the admissions web site says that for every $10,000 a prospective student donates to the University, he will be able to receive 10 extra points on his SAT score and/or .1 points added to his Grade Point Average. “We’re shifting away from the ‘need-blind’ admissions model to the ‘cash-sensitive’ admissions models,” Director of Undergraduate Admissions Jason Oundet said, “But prospective students should not worry that this shift will affect their chances of admission to Duke—unless they are poor. Then, yes, they should be worried.”
